Understand and Learn How you Can Personally Combat Global Climate Change

At the August meeting of the Democratic Club, one of our members, Daniel Everly presented an impassioned demonstration of how each of can make a difference in the climate changes that are disastrously impacting our planet. Illustrating his points with books available right here in our Nancy Carol Roberts Library, Daniel discussed the uses of solar panels as one method each of us can employ to make a difference.

Thank you Daniel!

Joining the Fight Against Fossil Fuel Investments

Speaking up for what we value and love in a public place, often called a "protest", may be so much more influential to the actions of our leaders than we think at the time.  For societies to make progress in the realm of well-being for all, it is necessary for the people to speak Truth to Power.  As Joanna Macy says, "If the world is to be healed through human efforts, I am convinced it will be by ordinary people, people whose love for this life is even greater than their fear."

The Brenham Banner Press ran a photo on their front page after the Day of Action, called Stop The Dirty Banks, a project of ThirdAct.org, a national organization with over 50,000 members.  The Brenham witness was just one of over 100 actions across the nation that made headlines at The Washington Post, The New York Times, and NPR and NBC.   For a montage of photos of the actions around the country:

The Brenham Banner Press photo is of Dennis Flanigan, Bren Hardt, Linda Arbuckle and Donna Glass as we symbolically cut up a Big Bank Credit card.  We also cut up 3 real Chase credit cards that day.   Bren Hardt is pictured delivering a letter to Wells Fargo on 3-21-23. Third image is of our handout.

YOU can still flex your financial muscle by signing the Banking of Our Future Pledge and mailing a letter to Chase or other dirty bank saying you plan to avoid business with them until they cease funding fossil fuel poisoning of our Earth.
